The Museum of Innocence is both a novel by Orhan Pamuk and a museum he has set up.The novel was published in 2008 and the museum was opened in 2012.

The book is an account of love between a wealthy businessman Kemal and a poorer distant relation Füsun during the period 1975 to 1984 in Istanbul. Kemal’s engagement to a pretty girl Sibel is in two months time when he meets shop girl Füsun while buying a handbag for his fiancee. What follows in next month and a half is an intense and secretive physical and emotional relationship between them, portrayed beautifully.

It is not essential to have read the book to fully enjoy the museum, just as it is not necessary to have visited the museum to fully enjoy the book. But those who have done both will be amazed.
