Laleli Mosque is located on the European side of Istanbul in Eminonu. The mosque was constructed by Sultan Mehmet III between the years 1760-1763. It was destroyed in 1783 because of a fire and was immediately rebuilt.
The complex composed of a mosque, madrasah, school, almhouse and publichouse. The most structures of Laleli Mosque have dissappeared over the years. However the gate in the avenue was relocated to the back in 1950’s. Importance of the Kulliye is it was the last Kulliye (social complex) ordered by a sultan. No other Kulliye was ordered by a sultan thereafter.
