In 2005 the İstanbul Modern housed in an old warehouse, opened as the first permanent showcase for Turkish art of the 19th & 20th centuries. A bright,light space looking straight over the Bosphorus to Sarayburnu and Topkapı Palace. The museum brings together the cityscape of İstanbul with the arts. There are two floors of exhibits, as well as a bookstore, cinema, library and a restaurant.
İstanbul Modern Museum aims to collect, preserve and exhibit modern and contemporary art and to have contribution in the integration of the visual arts with the rich cultural heritage of Turkey.
