The origins of the Grand Bazaar, which is one of the world’s oldest marketplaces, go as far back as 1453, when Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror conquered Istanbul. Once all kinds of goods were -and actually stil is- sold here. It is safer, since it is a covered area, hence has been an ideal place for shops selling valuables.
Everything can be found from souvenirs to copper, jewellery to leather, garments to carpets and kilims, wooden objects to antiquity, tile to glassware, nostalgic accessories, coffee shops to Turkish delight shop. This place is like a closed box, in which a person can live for weeks, satisfying all his needs without ever having to go out to the outer world.
